Additional funding from the State of Ohio has been awarded to BW through the Choose Ohio First program with the goal of educating the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) leaders.

In mid-May, BW received notification that it was a recipient of a $549,941 Choose Ohio First (COF) grant to be used for STEM programs in data science and computational fields and in applied science fields, with the goal of supporting transfer students from community colleges who are majoring in those disciplines at BW.
Baldwin Wallace was among 59 State of Ohio COF recipients. BW was in the top 20 percent of monetary amounts awarded.
BW has been a recipient of COF funding for eight years. Hundreds of BW students have benefited from BW Choose Ohio First scholarships.
Admitted, incoming first-year, transfer, post-baccalaureate and graduate students coming to BW for fall 2026 can receive COF scholarships for enrollment in designated undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate programs through COF award funding.
Funding emphases are set by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. In addition to STEM, recent grants have also included rural health as a focus.
The COF program aims to strengthen Ohio's competitiveness in meeting the talent and workforce needs of regional and state-wide organizations through scholarships, programming and work-based learning.
At BW, Choose Ohio First is part of the University's STEM Scholars program. BW students who apply for and are awarded a COF scholarship are automatically granted membership in the STEM Scholars program.
STEM Scholars is a signature program at BW that provides academic and experiential learning enrichment. It features exclusive programming, networking and STEM success coaching for students within the STEM Scholars program.
