Notre Dame Transfer

We're Making It Easy to Complete Your Degree by Transferring to BW

While Baldwin Wallace University is saddened by the news of the Notre Dame College closure, the BW community would be honored to provide a place for Notre Dame students to transfer and complete their educational journey. BW offers more than 80 majors, 20 graduate programs, certificate and professional development programs, as well as 28 NCAA Division III varsity sport teams.

Led by our 179-year mission to provide a quality education, BW welcomes Notre Dame students searching for a new college home.

For Students Completing Their Degree at BW, we offer the following:

  • A commitment to keep you on track toward graduation.
  • BW guarantees 100% transfer of all credits from Notre Dame College (including graduate credits) and admission to students in good standing.
    • For undergraduate students: Good standing at Notre Dame College means that a student has a cumulative GPA of 2.0, is up to date on their student payment plan, and the student is clear of any conduct concerns.
    • For graduate students: Good standing at Notre Dame College means that a student has a cumulative GPA of 3.0, is up to date on their student payment plan, and the student is clear of any conduct concerns.
  • BW will not charge an application fee.
  • For non-athletes and student-athletes who do not intend to compete in NCAA sports, the net out-of-pocket cost to attend BW in 2024-25 will cost the same or less than what the student paid at Notre Dame College in 2023-24.
  • For student-athletes who transfer and wish to continue participating in NCAA sports and who received an athletic scholarship from Notre Dame College, financial aid will be re-calculated, removing the athletic scholarship. The student-athlete will cover the value of their athletic scholarship as part of their out-of-pocket cost. Like non-athletes, the remaining out-of-pocket cost necessary for the student to attend Notre Dame College in 2023-24 will serve as the remaining out-of-pocket cost to attend BW in 2024-25.
  • BW is waiving minimum enrollment requirements and credit requirements for Notre Dame College students. Students interested in separately accredited programs will be evaluated individually for credit requirements.
  • When possible, students in licensure programs will be supported in obtaining an equal or comparable license.
  • This transfer offer is good for students who are currently enrolled or were enrolled at Notre Dame College (either concurrently or having stopped out) no earlier than the spring 2022 semester.
  • To begin the transfer process to BW, complete a transfer application.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do transfer credits apply to a BW degree?

Courses transferred from Notre Dame College count directly toward your major or minor, core requirements or electives — all are counted toward the minimum 120 credits needed to graduate.

How much credit can transfer to BW?

There is no limit on the number of credit hours that may be transferred from Notre Dame College. However, individual degree program requirements vary. Students with 60 or more transferable credit hours may be eligible to waive the BW general education requirements. Students with less than 45 credit hours remaining may be eligible to graduate with a BW degree. A BW bachelor's degree requires a minimum of 120 credit hours.

There is a limit on how much credit may transfer in some academic areas as determined by the BW faculty, such as engineering or other technical areas.

Are there time limits on how old courses can be?

Most courses have no time limit to qualify for transfer toward a bachelor's degree. However, some areas are more time-sensitive, such as accounting, computer science, education, psychology and nursing, and may make transfer to BW unavailable.

Will my grade point average from Notre Dame transfer?

No, only your credit hours will transfer. When you enroll at Baldwin Wallace University, you will establish a new grade point average.

Am I required to meet the unique requirements for BW graduate programs?

Yes, you will complete a Baldwin Wallace graduate degree based on BW course requirements and offerings. Unfortunately, this may result in you having to take additional courses to complete a graduate program at BW.

Will I need to complete BW's licensure preparation requirements for graduate education programs?

You will follow the same licensure preparation as other BW graduate students.

How do I start the financial aid process at BW?

The Baldwin Wallace financial aid process starts with completion of your 2024-25 FAFSA (BW's school code 003014). BW will also require a copy of your latest Notre Dame College financial aid offer letter to be sure to match your out-of-pocket costs for the 2024-25 year. There may be additional information BW will need from you as we move through this process, but great first step is to submit your FAFSA.

Please note: Due to the ongoing federal complications with the 2024-25 FAFSA, if you have already completed the 2024-25 FAFSA, you will not be able to add BW to your FAFSA until the U.S. Department of Education make that process available later on this month.
