Baldwin Wallace University is one of just 10 higher education institutions named as the "Best Private Colleges in Ohio."

Stacker developed the list based on a 2024 data analysis by Niche, which evaluates, measures and ranks metrics for more than 1,500 public and private schools, including academics, value for money, professors, campus and diversity.

Niche writes that it scores schools "based on rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with millions of reviews from students and alumni."

Top-flight faculty, friendly campus

First Year Experience (FYE) peer training

While both public and private colleges can offer a top-notch educational experience, Stacker noted that "some characteristics of private institutions — namely size, reputation, and flexibility [along with smaller class sizes] — make them more appealing to prospective students."

The Niche rankings also place BW among the top "Colleges with the Best Professors in America." As part of the Niche polling data, 93% of students agree that "professors put a lot of effort into teaching their classes."

When asked "What one word or phrase best describes the typical student at this school?" the No. 1 answer among BW student surveys was "friendly."

Best in America for Sport Management, Music

Niche also ranked private college programs across the U.S., and BW was among the "Best in America" for sport management, scoring higher than nearly 90% of college programs on the list. Niche also placed BW programs in music, performing arts, education, chemistry, business, history, English and biology in the top tier of programs.

BW is also ranked highly for "Best College Locations," with a safe, green campus just minutes from the big-city advantages of Cleveland. Niche placed BW at No. 3 among "Best Colleges in the Cleveland Area" (including publics) after Case and Oberlin.
