BW talent continues its spotlight glow on national TV, as Jaali Boyd ‘24 received a two-chair turn during the "Blind Auditions" of "The Voice" and advanced to the next round.
Boyd, who has roots in both Ohio and Maryland, performed Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's "No Air" during "The Voice Blind Auditions" on March 2. Her soulful rendition garnered a two-chair turn by coaches Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.
Compliments from three-time-each Grammy winners Clarkson and Levine were plentiful, with Levine receiving the final nod as her coach.
"I’ve been watching ‘The Voice’ since it came on. It is one of the biggest stages, one of the biggest platforms," Boyd said in an interview promoting "The Voice" and featuring her performance segment.
Boyd earned a bachelor’s degree in arts management and entrepreneurship at BW. She and her mother, Tamika Law, operate Musically Yours Entertainment LLC, a multifaceted company that offers live music services, specialty shows, bands, singers, musicians and event production for live music events, among other services.
Boyd is the latest of several YJ4L appearing on a national TV singing competition. In 2024, Jeremy Beloate '21 advanced to the final round of "The Voice." Earlier that year, Gabi Ilg '26 and grad Ricky Moyer '23 were featured on Season 22 of "American Idol." Other BW students and alumni have also appeared on the shows over the years.
Season 29 of "The Voice" premiered on NBC on Monday, Feb. 23, with the first round of "Blind Auditions." During the "Blind Auditions," contestants performed for the audience and three celebrity coaches, whose chairs were turned to face away from the stage.
A big red button can make or break a contestant’s day. Coaches hit the button on their seat to indicate their interest in wanting a singer on their team. A three-chair turn is the pinnacle affirmation for a performer.
"The Voice" airs on NBC and is available to stream on Peacock.
