Meet the Experts
T. Clifford Deveny, M.D. – Hospital Leadership
Advisor / Emeritus CEO
Summa Health
Dr. T. Clifford Deveny is a distinguished Ohio healthcare leader who most recently served as President and CEO of Summa Health, an Akron-based health system. A board-certified OB/GYN with deep community ties, Dr. Deveny guided Summa through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, while advancing a strong focus on population health, physician alignment, and value-based care before stepping down at the end of 2025.
Before returning to Summa in 2017, Dr. Deveny served as Senior Vice President for Physician Services and Clinical Integration at Catholic Health Initiatives, where he led a population health initiative establishing 12 regional clinically integrated networks. He later served as President of Locus Health, a healthcare technology company focused on population health solutions.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Deveny spent more than 20 years at Summa Health in senior clinical and administrative roles. A graduate of Denison University and the University of Toledo College of Medicine, he remains an active civic leader and currently serves as Chair of the Ohio Hospital Association Board of Directors.
The Greater Akron Chamber has announced that Dr. Deveny has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the H. Peter Burg Economic Development Leadership Award.
Thomas S. Campanella, J.D., M.A. – Health Policy

Tom Campanella is President of Campanella Consulting, Inc., where he advises healthcare organizations across diverse sectors with a focus on strategy, health policy, and finance. He is a frequent regional and national speaker on healthcare economics and policy issues and produces thought leadership through blogs, white papers, and webinars on a wide range of healthcare topics.
Mr. Campanella previously served as a Professor of Health Economics and director of healthcare-related graduate programs at Baldwin Wallace University. In addition to his academic career, he spent 22 years as a counsel healthcare attorney with BakerHostetler.
His executive leadership experience includes serving as Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Services at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and as Chief Operating Officer of its five clinical sites in Southeast Ohio. Earlier in his career, he was Vice President of Health Care Finance and Care Management for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio/Medical Mutual and a consultant with Ernst & Young.
Mr. Campanella holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Ohio University and a law degree from Cleveland State University.
Richard Wallack – Payer Community

Richard Wallack is a senior healthcare insurance executive who leads the development and execution of sales strategies to drive revenue growth and expand market share. He brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare sales, marketing, and network management, with expertise in payer strategy and public-sector business.
Mr. Wallack first joined Medical Mutual in 1990 as Regional Contract Administrator and advanced through multiple leadership roles, including Director of Institutional and Ancillary Contracting. In 2002, he joined UnitedHealthcare of Ohio as Vice President of Network Management before returning to Medical Mutual in 2005 as Vice President of Marketing Services. Beginning in 2010, he led Sales and Service teams for the Public Sector Business unit and was promoted to Regional Vice President of Sales in 2016.
Mr. Wallack holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in finance from Cleveland State University. He is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland and serves on the boards of the Cleveland Leadership Center and the BGSU College of Business Leadership Council.
Bryan L. Fredericks, MPH - Moderator

Bryan L. Fredericks brings a uniquely integrative perspective to the discussion, bridging clinical practice, healthcare administration, and academic leadership. He spent 10 years as a Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Assistant, followed by 28 years as a senior administrator in both large urban and rural healthcare systems.
Currently a lecturer at Baldwin Wallace University and former Program Director of the Healthcare Management Programs, Bryan guides the conversation by connecting frontline clinical realities with organizational strategy and payer considerations. His experience across care delivery, system leadership, and workforce development positions him to effectively moderate a discussion that examines healthcare challenges from multiple angles and translates insight into practical understanding.
