WHY STUDY ABROAD?
- Gain Career-Building Global Exposure
-
Public policy, international politics, business, global trade and immigration services all require firsthand experience and knowledge of the world beyond U.S. borders. No matter your major, study abroad provides life experience that employers value in our increasingly global community and marketplace.
- Gain international exposure and experience in your field.
- Enhance your resume with examples of achieving goals, taking initiative and overcoming challenges.
- Strengthen your communication skills.
- Stand apart from the majority. Nationally, only one to two percent of students study abroad.
- Develop professional contacts overseas.
- Enrich Your Education
-
Whether you take a BW-led seminar or independent study at a foreign or domestic institution, academic rigor and integrity remain at the core of each program.
- Fulfill academic requirements.
- Strengthen critical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Increase your global awareness and sensitivity.
- Gain international perspective in your area of study.
- Become proficient in another language.

An exciting learning opportunity, study abroad and off-campus programs can fulfill major, core or elective course requirements, depending on your chosen experience. All international programs meet requirements for some, if not all, of the international studies portion of the core curriculum. All study abroad programs will fulfill the experiential learning requirement.
- Expand Student Learning by Linking Curriculum to the World
-
With an increased emphasis on globalization in the marketplace, off-campus study can be an invaluable learning experience. More than a sightseeing tour, it is an opportunity to experience education in an international setting. It fosters advanced personal and professional growth and can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Travel with BW faculty and other students to learn as a group. Programs vary in length — from two to six weeks — and focus on specific topics in locations throughout the world. All seminars spend a portion of the semester on campus in preparatory courses before traveling later in the semester. Examples include:
- Seminar in Europe: Eight weeks of intensive study and preparation on campus followed by travel to Italy, France, Germany, England and other countries. Designed to encourage intellectual and personal growth, students take part in lectures and visit sites of major importance in the development of western culture.
- Explore Asia: Experience a wide variety of Asian cultural and historical attractions. Programs often include study tours of China or India. Students typically receive business or sociology credit and fulfill a portion of the international studies core.
- Explore Europe: Experience European history, sports or theater firsthand. Students often receive history, English, art, theatre or health and physical education credit, and they fulfill a portion of the international studies core.
- Explore South America: Learn about the biology, geology and culture of South America. Programs often focus on sustainability and fulfill a portion of the international studies core.
