Student health care access expands for BW students this fall

Students gain access to same-day care, expanded hours, multiple locations and new health care options through BW partners.

Since 2024, Baldwin Wallace University and Southwest General Medical Group (SGMG) have partnered to offer health services staffed and operated by Southwest General. Starting in the fall 2026 semester, BW students will have preferred patient status and can access same-day care by appointment or drop-in at three locations near campus.

Students who choose to use SGMG services may opt to use their health insurance or SGMG's self-pay plan. SGMG's Middleburg Heights, Berea and Olmsted Township clinics will provide same-day care to BW students, and BW will provide transportation at no cost to students. As part of this expanded access, SGMG has closed its on-campus clinic location while offering students three local options. Students can learn more about health services.

"One benefit of BW's location is proximity to many high-quality health care options. Students have enjoyed extended evening and weekend hours at campus counseling services and frequently requested similar availability for health services. This new arrangement with SGMG gives students greater flexibility to access care," said Dr. Lena Crain, Vice President for Student Experience and Dean of Students.

Current patients' records will continue to be maintained by SGMG, and patients can seamlessly continue care with their trusted SGMG providers.

Student Body President and longtime Student Health Committee member Faith Gillette '27 said, "As an advocate for students, having this expanded access at three locations is important to me. It's reassuring to know that students have multiple options for where to go, which medical providers they see, and hours that are compatible with students' demanding schedules."

In addition to continued options through SGMG, BW students also have access to a new service: MobileMD, which offers personalized on-campus visits for subscribers. Students can call or book online with a MobileMD provider, who will visit campus on demand to care for colds, strep, flu, injuries, physicals and more.

BW's counseling services, which are administered and staffed by the University, are unaffected by this change. Counseling services will continue to offer on-campus and tele-counseling services.
