All-campus rally kicks off BW school year

photo of Stinger by StrosackerFrom new faces on campus to the largest incoming class since 2015, the 2021-22 school year has a fortuitous sprinkling of Brown & Gold magic in the air.

The countdown is underway for an all-campus celebration that marks the excitement and spirit of a new school year.

On Sunday, Aug. 22*, starting at 4 p.m. in the George Finnie Stadium, BW students, faculty and staff will gather for a two-hour celebration that is a combo picnic, pep rally and new twist on the traditional Week of Welcome event known as Convocation.

New Faces, New Energy

"Whether this is your first BW event or your 40th, this one is going to be special. For me, who started in June as vice president for student affairs, this is my first all-campus BW gathering. I am excited to meet our returning students as well as welcome our 720 incoming first-year students and transfers," said Dr. Timeka Rashid.

"We have music, fun and surprises lined up," she went on to say. "It's a time for us to unite, connect as a community, engage and learn about new programs and opportunities - all of which make BW special.

"For our first-year students, we want to welcome you and share with you the wonderful spirit and traditions of BW. These traditions connect us to generations of individuals who have called BW home," noted Rashid.

"A new year is time to look back at who we are and recognize the challenges we've faced and the successes we've achieved. And then look forward with confidence both individually and collectively that the path we're on can be rewarding and extraordinary. The energy at BW is amazing. The possibilities limitless. I am beyond excited to get the new year underway," she emphasized.

* Rain date is Thursday, Aug. 26, starting at 4 p.m.
