Ciara Newman

Ciara Emily Newman is a soprano from Fairbanks, Alaska. She serves as a lecturer of voice in the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts.

An established private voice teacher, she maintains a studio in the Cleveland area. Her work specializes in cross-genre training with an emphasis on how to perform pop and rock music in a functional and healthy way.

Newman's voice has been described as a "sunny soprano while remaining agile in its dramatic tendencies." Her command of the stage has led her to many interesting projects, including a live radio broadcast of Menotti's "The Old Maid and the Thief" with Penn State Opera Theater. She appeared in the world premiere of Griffin Candey's "The House of Bernarda Alba" as Magdalena in May 2022 with Cleveland Opera Theater. She also performed in the Midwest premiere of Tom Cipullo's "Glory Denied" as Older Alyce Thompson.

Her administrative skills have led her to serve as assistant general manager for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and her credits as a voice teacher include work with Penn State University, Aurora School of Music, Akron Music Institute, Lakewood Music Academy, Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
