Benjamin Czarnota

Dr. Benjamin Czarnota is a voice pedagogue whose teaching, scholarship and performance span classical, musical theatre and contemporary commercial music.

A Baldwin Wallace alumnus, he previously served as coordinator of musical theater voice at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where he developed curriculum, created department-wide assessment tools, and led initiatives supporting student and faculty development. His students have gone on to perform on Broadway, national tours, and regional stages across the country.

Known for his individualized and collaborative approach to teaching, Czarnota emphasizes healthy, sustainable vocalism, stylistic flexibility and the cultivation of independent, expressive artists.

Czarnota holds a graduate certificate in vocology from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His current scholarly work explores stress-informed voice pedagogy and the ways the nervous system influences learning, performance and long-term artistic development. Drawing upon voice science, pedagogy and educational psychology, he helps singers develop reliable technique while building the curiosity, adaptability and self-awareness that support resilient performance.

His work has been presented through invited workshops and master classes, including a three-day vocal pedagogy workshop at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. He served on the senior faculty of the LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework™. He has also presented at the Ohio chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and contributed a featured exercise and accompanying pedagogical commentary to the third edition of "The Vocal Athlete" by Wendy LeBorgne and Marci Rosenberg. He is scheduled to present "When Technique Isn’t the Problem: Stress-Informed Pedagogy for Musical Theatre" at the 2027 Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance International Conference.

As a performer, Czarnota has appeared in opera, concert and musical theatre throughout the United States. He originated the roles of Mr. Webb in the world premiere of "Our Town" and Otto Frank in the world premiere of "Anne Frank." His performance credits include appearances with Wichita Grand Opera, Cleveland Opera Theater and Indiana University Opera Theater. He performed the title role in "Sweeney Todd" and Emile de Becque in "South Pacific" with the Akron Symphony Orchestra at E.J. Thomas Hall. He also served for two seasons as the official national anthem singer for the Cleveland Browns.
