Dr. Kent Cleland teaches music theory courses in BW's Conservatory of Music, with a specialization in aural skills courses. He has previously taught at the University of Cincinnati and Oberlin College, and has held administrative positions at Indiana University, DePauw University and Baldwin Wallace University. Cleland continues to be an active freelance trombonist. His research specializations include aural skills pedagogy, musical analysis and public music theory. He is the co-author of the textbook “Developing Musicianship through Aural Skills,” and co-editor of the “Routledge Companion to Aural Skills Pedagogy.” Cleland maintains a YouTube Channel (Dr. C’s Music Theory Land) which provides educational videos for a variety of topics in music theory as well as listeners’ guides to pieces in the standard Western musical canon. He is a Senior Fellow in the UK Higher Education Academy.
