"The more you know about the past, the better you are prepared for the future."
— Ken Jennings
Good morning BW,
The more I learn about BW, the more I understand who we are and how we keep getting better at who we are. Our history is filled with stories of people who worked hard, challenged convention, welcomed others, opened doors to opportunity, and believed deeply in the power of education to create a better future.
So, this week, I'd like to have a little fun with some BW trivia history.
Below are some BW trivia questions. Next week, I'll provide the answers. Please send your answers by simply replying to this Monday Morning Message.
The first person to respond to all the answers correctly will get a Starbucks gift card or a ride with me anywhere on campus in a golf cart, with a stop for lunch. See this video link: Need a Lift? After seeing this video, our winner will likely choose the gift card.
- What are the names of the two institutions that merged in 1913 to become Baldwin-Wallace College, and what are the full names of our two founders?
- What was one of our co-founders famous for not wearing?
- What industrial activity provided much of the income for BW's parent institutions through the 1930s
- When the Baldwin Institute opened in 1845, its first class included 100 students. What percentage were women?
- Baldwin University held its first official athletic games in the early 1880s. What sport was played first?
- What BW alumnus won four Olympic gold medals and what year did he graduate BW?
- What is the new BW Promise? (Hint: we promise that our students will graduate with what set of 4 skills?)
A question may begin with a name, a date, or an obscure fact, but it invites us to ask something bigger. Why did this happen? What did it mean? What can it teach us today?
The more we know about BW's past, the better we’ll be able to create our future together.
Have a great week.
