BW Book Bundle takes the hassle out of getting course materials by providing students with convenient access to their required materials at the lowest available price. This course materials affordability program aims to ensure students arrive to class prepared, do not need to stress about obtaining their required materials, and receive affordable prices.

Follett – our BW Bookstore provider – works on behalf of Baldwin Wallace to negotiate required material prices with publishers down to the lowest possible price. Follett then works with the BW Bookstore to ensure all required digital materials appear in the student’s Canvas and all required physical materials are prepared for pickup by the first day of class, as applicable.

While students are automatically enrolled, they can choose to remain in the program or opt out. Opt-out details and instructions will be sent to each enrolled student. Students who decide not to participate in the program can opt out each term by the posted deadline without any penalty. Instructions on how to opt out will be sent to students via email before the start of the semester.

What type of materials will students receive?

Depending on the classes and required course materials, students may receive a combination of digital course materials, physical textbooks, printed lab manuals or workbooks. Please note that some materials or supplies may be excluded from the program.

How do I get my course materials that aren’t included in the program?

Only required digital and/or physical materials for courses participating in the program are included. For suggested, recommended, or other course materials and supplies, you can order these materials online or visit the BW Bookstore, where textbook experts will be happy to assist you.

What is the difference between "Required" and "Recommended" course materials, and which are included in the program?

  • Required: it is necessary for the course.
  • Recommended: the instructor has suggested an item that may be helpful.

Only materials identified by the faculty as "required" are included in the program. All "recommended" materials may be purchased separately at the BW Bookstore.

Will this affect the faculty's textbook selection or academic freedom?

No. Faculty still retain full academic freedom and can choose the materials used in their courses.

What if a student adds or drops a course?

If a student adds or drops a course, that information is automatically transmitted to the BW Bookstore.

  • Added courses: Within 24 hours of adding a course, students will receive an email at their BW email address with details for accessing their digital materials and/or whether their materials are already provisioned directly in Canvas. If the course requires physical materials, students will receive an email to their school email address notifying them when the new print materials are ready for pickup.
  • Dropped courses: For courses dropped prior to the last day to drop/add/opt-out/opt-in deadline, access to electronic or digital materials will be automatically disabled. If the course requires physical materials, they must be returned to the BW Bookstore unless otherwise stated.

Is BW Book Bundle mandatory, or can students opt out of the program?

Students are automatically enrolled in BW Book Bundle but may choose to remain in the program or opt out without penalty during the opt-out period. Opt-out instructions will be emailed to enrolled students before the start of the semester, and the deadline is the drop/add date listed in the academic calendar. Students who opt out by this deadline will receive a full refund and are responsible for purchasing their required materials independently. Opting out must be done each term, and there is no penalty for doing so.

Are there any programs or courses excluded from BW Book Bundle?

While most BW courses are part of BW Book Bundle, courses in the Nursing ABSN, Speech-Language Pathology (SLP graduate students), and Physician Assistant (PA) programs are not included in BW Book Bundle. Materials for courses in these programs are supplied to students by the departments through a separate program fee.

Students in the traditional Nursing BSN program may have some courses where materials are included in BW Book Bundle and others where materials are provided directly through the Nursing program through a separate program fee. BSN students from first-year through junior status will work with the BW Bookstore to secure materials for core and elective courses to ensure the most cost-effective approach. Senior-level BSN students are exclusively enrolled in nursing courses and receive all course materials directly through the Nursing program. As a result, they are excluded from the BW Book Bundle.

What if a student opted out/opted in by mistake or changed their mind?

If the opt-out/opt-in period has not ended, students can opt back in/out by going to the opt-out portal and choosing "opt in"/"opt out." They can log in to the opt-out portal by using the links and instructions provided to their BW email address.

For a demonstration of how to opt out, watch this video.

Required physical materials can be kept by the student at the end of each term and do not have to be returned. Digital materials can be accessed for a minimum of 180 days and may be available for a longer period based on the material adopted and the publisher's terms.

How do I access my required digital course materials?
