Strong triple-threat skills — acting, dancing and singing — are a given for students and graduates of Baldwin Wallace University's renowned music theatre program.

But one grad, Jeremy Beloate '21 from Memphis, Tennessee, is focusing everything on his vocal chops as he competes to win a new season of "The Voice."

Beloate's audition for celebrity "coaches" Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg aired on Monday, October 7, as part of the 26th season of the show on NBC.

The initial "Blind Auditions" require performers to sing for the judges while their backs are turned. If one or more of the judges hit the big red button to turn their chairs before the audition song is over, the singer will be added to a coach's team to be mentored in the next round of the competition.

Beloate earned a four-chair turn.

Exciting fans, choosing a coach

American Songwriter noted that Beloate is already winning fan-favorite status on social media.

"Once Jeremy Beloate began his stellar performance of Giveon's "Heartbreak Anniversary," it didn't take long for red chairs to start spinning . . . [He] hit every note flawlessly, securing a four-chair turn from all four coaches during Monday's (Oct. 7) episode of The Voice," the magazine wrote.

In the end, Beloate chose Michael Bublé as his coach, writing on Instagram that the crooner "saw something in me that I didn't recognize in myself. I'm so honored to learn from you."

More competition to come

There are several levels of competition on the show before the public chooses the eventual winner in the Live Performance round. As the show's website explains, "in the end, one unforgettable new singer will be crowned The Voice!"

"The Voice" is hosted by Carson Daly and includes surprise celebrity mentors in addition to the celebrity coaches as the contestants battle to be the last vocalist standing.

The season will be available to stream on Peacock the day after it airs on NBC.
