First Year Student Admission

Acting BFA Audition

Each year, approximately 17 students enroll in the BW Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting major at BW. Auditions are required for all students applying to the acting BFA major.

Schedule Your Audition

As you complete the application for admission, you will be asked to request your audition date. Auditions are filled on a first-come basis after the receipt of the application and audition fee. Audition spots may fill well in advance of the application deadlines. The application and audition fee must be submitted by November 1 to audition in November and by January 31 to audition in February.

Audition Fee

Please submit your audition fee using your applicant portal after submitting your application. Instructions for logging into your applicant portal are emailed once your application is received. Auditions are scheduled AFTER the audition fee is received. Students who wish to audition for both a Conservatory of Performing Arts program and the acting BFA program are offered a special audition rate of $150. Audition fee waivers are considered upon request by emailing mmiller@bw.edu.

Your Audition

Live auditions for the acting BFA program will be conducted both in person and virtually. Prepare two contrasting monologues, for example, one comedic and one dramatic. We welcome heightened classical monologues such as Shakespeare, but this is not a requirement. Your two contrasting monologues should not exceed three minutes in total.

Virtual Audition On Zoom

Prospective acting BFA students will be invited to participate in a virtual information session prior to their audition experience on Zoom. Auditionees have approximately 10 minutes with the panel of acting faculty to audition and interview. Upon the conclusion of the audition experience, auditionees will have an opportunity to interact with current acting BFA students as well as engage in a Q&A session.

On-Campus Auditions

Prospective acting BFA students will be welcomed on campus for an event where families are encouraged to attend. After this, prospective students participate in a voice, movement or acting workshop and audition with their fellow auditionees for the acting faculty. The rest of the day can be spent touring the campus, enjoy lunch in our cafeteria, and attending an on-campus performance. All auditioning students and their families receive complimentary tickets to any show produced by the theatre and dance department the weekend that they audition.

Admission Notification

Because the application process for the acting BFA major requires an audition, a decision notification regarding your admission status will be sent by December 11 or March 5, depending on when you audition.
