Community Outreach

Discover Cleveland 2014 participants after serving at the Greater Cleveland Foodbank.  Yes, those are slices of bread encased in a sculpture!

It has become a tradition to begin the program with a cookout at Edgewater Park, one of Cleveland's many treasures.

Discover Cleveland

"Discover Cleveland"
is a program that provides an opportunity for new students to learn more about community service, Cleveland, and OCO's community partners.  BW is just 20 minutes from Cleveland, a city with a lot to offer. What better way to get to know your new community than through a service immersion experience?  The program occurs before the start of classes and BW's Weekend of Welcome.

While each year is a little different, the 2014 program included service at the Greater Cleveland Foodbank, Bishop Cosgrove Center, Medwish International and St. Augustine's Health Campus.  Outings included a Cleveland scavenger hunt, bowling at the Corner Alley downtown, a visit to West Side Market in Ohio City, and tasty treats at Sweet Moses Soda Fountain and Treat Shop in the Gordon Square District.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

– Margaret Mead
