Alternative Winter Break 2014 - Chicago, IL December 13-20
What is Alternative Break?
Alternative Break is an intense service experience during one of BW's breaks. It is an opportunity to serve with fellow BW students, make new friends, make a difference, and travel to another part of the country and even the world. The focus on Alternative Break trips is direct service, reflection and education.
Being an Alternative Break participant requires time, energy and commitment. Participants agree to invest time and energy in order to make this experience a success. Participants must attend all AWB events including a retreat and group meetings before, during and after the trip.
The top priority of this trip is to participate in direct service. Each participant can expect to experience the community and culture of Chicago. Moreover, participants are expected to have an open mind, a willingness to learn and have new experiences as well as to have fun while serving!
All AB Trips use the BW vans. An acceptable number of BW certified drivers must be available for each trip. Therefore, students selected to participate, who have a valid driver's license, are asked to participate in van training.
Participants must attend all pre-trip meetings that will begin in October. A mandatory retreat is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 for all AWB participants.
Alcohol/Drug Free Policy
Alternative Break trips are alcohol and drug free. No alcohol is to be consumed, whether participants are legally of age or not. Individuals who are found to be consuming alcohol will be sent home at their expense. The BW University Code of Conduct applies while on this trip.
Non-refundable Payment Policy
All students participating in AWB must pay a $100 deposit by Friday, October 24th. The balance is due on Friday, December 5th.
