Blackboard Course Management System

The Blackboard Course Management System is an intuitive and easy-to-use academic software program dedicated to the advancement of teaching and learning through technology.  Its three primary areas of concentration are:  instruction, communication, and assessment.

Each semester, a course shell is built for every class offered at BW.  Utilizing the Blackboard system by "turning on" their course is an option for each instructor; however, it is highly encouraged by both the administration and IT Department and very popular with students.  By turning on a course, the instructor has the ability to:  create content using a variety of Web-based tools; develop customizations for individual students or groups; facilitate communication, collaboration, and participation; and evaluate student work.

While using Blackboard, students have the ability to:

  • obtain course syllabi and documents online
  • receive announcements from the instructor
  • submit assignments via the digital drop box
  • view grades online
  • utilize the group discussion board
  • participate in virtual classroom chat
  • complete surveys
  • take part in group collaboration projects

When students log into Blackboard, they will see a list of links to each course they have registered for that was activated by the instructor.  Each link will launch access to the Blackboard site for that particular course.  Only students registered in a course have access to the course site.
