International Student Arrival - Grindstone
An international student ambassador will meet new international students at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on these two days. Please check your email for airport shuttle confirmation.
When you arrive on campus, you will check into your residence hall room and be given rental linens. These linens can be used until our shopping trip on Thursday where you will buy your own.
1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Enjoy lunch in The Hive, in the student union.
5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy dinner in The Hive, in the student union.
Please note: Dining options are limited on these dates.
The times listed above are the only on-campus meals available. Off-campus dining options are available near the university and will accept cash or credit card.

Take Photo for Jacket Express - Quarry Room
Stop by the ID office to receive your personal Jacket Express. This card allows access to your residence hall and meal plan.

Welcome/Introductions & Breakfast - Quarry Room
Meet the international student services staff and other incoming international students.
Breakfast will be provided by ISS.
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
YJ4L—Yellow Jacket For Life - Quarry Room
Learn what “YJ4L” (Yellow Jacket For Life) means to ISS. Review expectations during orientation program.
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
English Placement Exam - Quarry Room
Written, reading and oral English exam is required for all incoming international students. This exam helps identify student needs for success in the classroom. Pencils and paper will be provided.
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Lunch with ISS staff and International Student Ambassadors - Colony Room
Enjoy campus dining while learning more about ISS staff and services.
Lunch will be provided by ISS.
1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The American Classroom - Grindstone
Hear from a panel of faculty and staff members about the realistic expectations of American classroom settings.
2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Difference and Diversity - Grindstone
Discuss cultural differences between your home country and that of US from the perspective of other international students.
2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Immigration & Visa Expectations - Grindstone
Understand the U.S. federal regulations when traveling within the States, out of the country and outside of BW.
4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Walmart Shopping Trip
Students will get a ride to Walmart, a “super shopping store” where they can purchase necessities for the semester.
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Dinner at Subway
Inside Walmart is a Subway sandwich shop. Bring either credit card or cash to purchase your meal.

Turn in Rental Linens & Breakfast
Drop off rented linens to Heritage Hall (main lounge outside of the residence life office) with an international student ambassador. Failure to return linens will result in a fine.

Health Center & TB Test - Health Center
Learn about the health center’s resources and complete your federal mandated TB test. Bring your TB form with you to complete at the Health Center.
*Note that you must return on Monday, January 11th, to have your TB test assessed. Failure to comply may result in deportation (this is a federal regulation).

Transitioning to American Life - MACS 144
Learn about the resources available through counseling services and how to handle culture shock.
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
BW Technology - MACS 145
Learn how to navigate MyBW.edu, Blackboard and WebExpress.
12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Lunch on your own
Enjoy campus dining in the Union or Buzzy’s, or adventure off campus to downtown Berea.
Advising Appointments - Check your schedule for exact time and location
Finalize your course schedules.
ISS Office with Visa Forms - Check your schedule for exact time and location
Bring your passport to finalize immigration paperwork with Lurline Brotherson in the ISS office in Bonds Hall.
2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Money Matters - Grindstone
Learn about your banking options and money issues in the U.S. from a representative from PNC Bank.
3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Open an account at PNC Bank (optional) - Grindstone
Bring your passport to open up a student bank account. A representative from PNC will assist students in filling out the proper paperwork. Students have the opportunity to go to the bank to deposit cash if they want.
Beyond BW Campus tour (optional)
Explore campus and the surrounding Berea area with a van tour led by an international student ambassador. Tours will leave from the Welcome Center.
Dinner on your own
Enjoy campus dining or adventure off campus to downtown Berea.

Living on BW Campus - Grindstone
Learn how to be a successful student and roommate from a representative from residence life.
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tour and Lunch in Downtown Cleveland
To experience Cleveland’s rapid transportation, bring exactly $5 cash so you can purchase an all-day ticket (Machine only accepts cash and will not make change).
Tour the city of Cleveland on our famous “Lolly the Trolley."
Bring any extra cash for food or souvenirs (We’ll stop at Tower City, a popular mall in downtown Cleveland).
Dress for the weather, we will be walking and taking pictures outdoors.
*Weather Permitting– this event will only be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
