Nationally Ranked BW Wrestlers Notch Wins Record, Claim 2nd Straight OAC Title

Richie Burke '19The nationally ranked, record-setting BW wrestling team has claimed a second straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) title with a win over conference rival Heidelberg University.

The victory secured a share of the seventh OAC title for BW wrestling and increased the team's school-record, single-season wins total to 21, with a 21-3 overall mark. The Yellow Jackets, ranked ninth in the last National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, remain undefeated in OAC action.

“We are extremely proud of our entire wrestling team,” said Head Coach Jamie Gibbs, who led BW to a school-record win total each of the past three seasons. “Every member of our program, from the student-athletes to the coaches to the support staff to the BW administration, should be proud. We have all worked together to make this happen.”

Building BW Success on the Mat

In his sixth season at BW, Gibbs has amassed an impressive 69-29 career record, including 56 victories in the past three seasons. The Yellow Jackets can clinch the outright OAC title next Tuesday, Feb. 14 with a dual match win at OAC archrival the University of Mount Union. Next winter, BW will have a chance to tie the school-record for consecutive OAC titles. The 1971 through 1973 teams captured three straight OAC crowns under the tutelage of the legendary John Summa.
