BW Brown and Gold Club logoYellow Jackets from all sports, men’s and women’s, and all grad years have joined together to form one, united Baldwin Wallace University athletics alumni organization.

A broad range of athletes gathered at the Student Activities Center on Saturday to celebrate the launch of the new Brown & Gold Club and swap stories of memorable Yellow Jacket competition through the years.

"As former student-athletes, we have the opportunity to support the success of current Yellow Jackets and can help make an impact for the future of the programs by providing not only funding, but overall support," said Julie Work '98, a Brown & Gold vice president. "If we can get alumni engaged more often, we can build a great network as these student-athletes graduate and re-engage on a different level with the university."

Strengthened YJ4L ties

"Baldwin Wallace is home," said Natalie Winkelfoos '03, a club vice president. "Giving your time, talent and treasure is a way of supporting the place that offered us so many opportunities, relationships and experiences that have enhanced our lives after our time on campus as students."

Work also sees powerful opportunity in strengthened alumni ties. "It may be that alumni come back to discuss their career path with a team, attend games or other events that teams are participating in, or welcome individuals to the Brown & Gold Club at graduation," said Work. "The student-athletes should know that their experiences don't have to end once they have played their final contest; there are ways to stay involved."

Next opportunities to connect

At Saturday's formal launch party, Yellow Jackets of all ages and team stripes mingled with fellow grads, coaches and guests while noshing on gastro-pub food and craft brews in commemorative pilsners. Door prizes and a 50/50 raffle rounded out the evening.

The Brown & Gold Club officers, which include Doug Amy '91, '93 MBA, president, are now back at work planning a Brown & Gold newsletter and the next club event with an eye on a late winter or early spring gathering.

In the meantime, BW Director of Alumni Relations Terry Kurtz '91 encouraged athletics alumni to stay connected and join in upcoming alumni events. "We are hoping that our athletics alumni will reach out to coaches and teammates and use our upcoming events to create their own personal reunions. BW has already selected the dates, the menus and the venues – now, hopefully, it's simply a matter of alumni getting together and having a good time as they toast the holiday season."

Holiday events are scheduled for November 28 and 30, and December 5 and 7. View details and registration information for these holiday events.
