Photo of Chuck RotunoThe Cleveland region is making strides in the global automotive industry, thanks in part to the contributions of Chuck Rotuno '86 and his company OEConnection (OEC). Rotuno, OEC’s chairman and chief executive officer, was number five on Tech Czar Talk’s "Top 10 Executive Countdown," featured earlier this year on cleveland.com. The site recognized OEC as "one of the great 'secret' successes in the regional tech scene" and Tech Czar columnist Michael C. DeAloia credits Rotuno as the key reason the company has flourished.

Rapid Growth

OEC provides high-quality technology solutions to automakers and their franchised dealers. OEC was started in 2000, and has since expanded its services in Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Under Rotuno's guidance, OEC has achieved double-digit compounded annual growth rates during the past five years, and has been recognized as Tech Company of the Year in Northeast Ohio and a Cleveland Plain Dealer Top Workplace winner. "There’s a competitive advantage today and the way to win is to stay ahead of the curve," Rotuno told Crain’s Cleveland Business. "Nothing is compelling us to do this, other than us. We know it’s the way to keep investing in our future."

Educational opportunities abound

Rotuno graduated summa cum laude from BW with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance. He is also the current chair of the BW Board of Trustees. In the Crain's interview, Rotuno acknowledges the strength of higher education opportunities in Northeast Ohio. "I might be biased because I’m a Baldwin Wallace grad, but the educational institutions in this part of the country are second to none."

Preparation and recognition

Prior to forming OEC, Rotuno served as senior vice president and general manager of Bell & Howell Automotive (now Snap-on Business Solutions) and vice president of Business Development at Rubbermaid Inc. (now Newell Rubbermaid). He earned an MBA from The Ohio State University. In 2004, Rotuno was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. Under his leadership, OEConnection has received a great deal of recognition, including "Weatherhead 100," Forbes Magazine's "Best of the Web Award," Cleveland Plain Dealer Top Workplaces, "North Coast 99 Great Workplaces" and the "Best Employers Award in Ohio."
