With the goal of providing a healthy, safe and comfortable campus for our community and guests, BW instituted a Tobacco and Smoke-Free Policy that went into effect Jan. 1.

The policy will apply to all faculty, staff, students, visitors, subcontractors, consultants and vendors on any BW property. It includes "any tobacco product, whether lighted or not, including but not limited to: cigarettes, pipes, cigars, e-cigarettes, smokeless and chewing tobacco."

It bans the use of tobacco in "all university buildings, athletic and recreational facilities, parking lots and university owned, or personal vehicles being driven or parked on campus."

National Movement

The policy began as a BW Student Government initiative to promote wellness on campus. It aligns with a national trend at colleges and universities to have policies that ban tobacco and smoking.

Cessation Support Offered

BW is partnering with Southwest General Hospital to offer free on-site tobacco cessation for employees and students. Cessation classes will consist of two, small group meetings for one hour each. Classes will be offered as needed.
