Music Theatre Alumna Caitlin Houlahan to Make Broadway Debut in Waitress

October 12, 2016

She wowed audiences and critics alike in Northeast Ohio as an undergraduate playing Carrie at the Beck Center, landed the role of Jane in Peter Pan Live on NBC shortly after graduation, and performed at storied Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Now, Baldwin Wallace Music Theatre alumna Caitlin Houlahan '14 is poised to make her make Broadway debut.

As theatre critic Andrea Simakis reported, "Houlahan, who grew up in Aurora and graduated from the powerhouse music theater program at Baldwin Wallace University in 2014, will make her Broadway debut Thursday, Oct. 20, when she takes over the role of Dawn, a shy, bespectacled history buff who serves up pathos and pie alongside Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller in "Waitress."

According to a big splash in Playbill, Houlahan replaces Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz "in the role created by Kimiko Glenn, who left the show in July." Playbill and also report that Houlahan is soon to return to the small screen, appearing in the final season of HBO’s Girls.

The big Broadway announcement was also reported by TheatreMania and New York Theatre Guide, but nobody said it better than Simakis: "If you were lucky enough to catch Caitlin Houlahan as the titular, telekinetic loner in "Carrie" at the Beck Center for the Arts for a bargain 29 bucks in 2014, or as Jane, the daughter of the adult Wendy Darling (Minnie Driver) in NBC's "Peter Pan Live!" that same year, prepare to open your wallet the next time you see her."
