November 21, 2016

Baldwin Wallace University honored Broadway star and BW music theatre graduate, Jill Paice '02, with the 2016 Conservatory of Music Alumni Award. Paice was lauded at a series of events that included a special Conservatory convocation, a Master Class with current students, and an awards dinner.

To cap off the celebration, BW Music Theatre director Victoria Bussert, who calls Paice “an incredible role model and cherished friend,” accompanied the talented actress and other special guests to an evening performance of the BW production of West Side Story. It was a trip down memory lane for Paice, who, as an undergrad, starred as West Side Story’s "Maria" in a 2001 BW production of the theatre classic.

Impressive body of work

Since graduating in 2002, Paice has built an impressive body of work. Most recently she opened as Milo Davenport in the Broadway musical "An American in Paris" (Astaire Award nomination). Prior to the Broadway run, she originated the role at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

On the West End and on Broadway, Paice starred as Laura Fairlie in "The Woman in White." Also on the West End, she originated the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind" at the New London Theatre under the direction of Trevor Nunn. She originated the role of Niki Harris in "Curtains" at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, and again on Broadway opposite David Hyde Pierce. Broadway also saw her star as Miss Honey in "Matilda" and as the female lead in "The 39 Steps."

Paice appeared as Elizabeth Lucas in "Ace" as well as Florence in "Chess" at The Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia. Each performance garnered the Helen Hayes Award nomination for Best Leading Actress.

For the Roundabout, Paice appeared as Grazia in Maury Yeston’s "Death Takes a Holiday," and as Anne Egerman in the Roundabout’s gala concert reading of "A Little Night Music." Other New York appearances include "Weird Romance" and "The Gig" for the York Theatre and "Tokio Confidential" at the Atlantic Theater Company.  She also appears as Susan in "Company" with the New York Philharmonic which was distributed in movie theaters and as Caroline Neville in "Titanic" at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

Paice can be heard on the original cast recordings of "An American in Pairs," "Curtains," "The Woman in White," "Death Takes a Holiday" and "The Gig" as well as on the album "Andrew Lloyd Weber on Broadway."
