Baldwin Wallace Plugs into the 40th Cleveland International Film Festival

CIFF logoAs the 40th Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF40) prepares for a Wednesday, March 30 opening night, Baldwin Wallace University is forging new connections to the premiere event that drew more than 100,000 people in 2015.

BW will have a presence at the 2016 festival at Cleveland's Tower City as the sponsor of three films, there are organized student group outings to attend screenings, and students will have the chance to hear from one of the CIFF filmmakers during an appearance on BW's Berea campus arranged by Sport Management students.

ESPN "Believeland" Director to Visit BW

Believeland director Andy BillmanThe BW Sport Management Sport Media class will be hosting producer/director Andy Billman, who directed the new ESPN 30 for 30 “Believeland,” on Wed., March 30 at 1 p.m. in Sandstone 3. Believeland will premiere on Thursday, March 31 at CIFF. Billman has produced 22 other films in the award-winning "30 for 30" series. 

"Believeland" traces all the heartbreak and heroics of Cleveland's professional sports teams. "The Drive. The Fumble. The Shot. The Decision. José Mesa. And so it goes for Cleveland sports fans." 

BW-Sponsored CIFF40 Films

BW will sponsor and faculty representatives from Film Studies, Broadcasting & Mass Communication and French will introduce three films at this year's festival.

PARISIENNE (Peur de rien), described as a "semi-autobiographical film" from writer-director Danielle Arbid, who "captures the awkward, uncomfortable, and enlightening experiences of a young woman trying to find both herself and a place to call home" screening on April 4 and 5.

CIFF-April and the Extraordinary World still frameAPRIL AND THE EXTRAORDINARY WORLD (Avril et le Monde Truqué), an animated feature "set in an alternate universe where scientists have been disappearing for decades, robbing the world of their 20th century inventions," is "a fantastical journey of a young girl (voiced by Marion Cotillard) searching for her scientist parents in 1941 France" with screenings on April 2 and 3.

CIFF40 - The Anthropologist still frameTHE ANTHROPOLOGIST, a beautiful documentary that profiles the lives of renowned anthropologists, Margaret Mead and Susan Crate, through the eyes of their daughters, screening April 4, 5 and 6. 

The 40th Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF40), presented by Dollar Bank will take place March 30-April 10, 2016 at Tower City Cinemas and select neighborhood screening locations. The Festival will showcase 193 feature films and 213 short films representing 72 countries during its 12-day run.
