BW Grad Plays Hawkgirl in Legends of Tomorrow"DC's Legends of Tomorrow," a much-anticipated superhero television show premiering on The CW on Thursday, January 21, will feature Baldwin Wallace Music Theatre graduate Ciara Renée '13 as Hawkgirl, one of the superheroes who becomes a member of "a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat" as described by Screenrant.com.

Hawkgirl's Evolving Storyline

Renée played Hawkgirl in "Arrow" and "The Flash," but in "Legends of Tomorrow," her frequented role will reach impressive heights as Renée plays one of the central characters. She told Comic Book Resources, "...it is kind of her storyline, so there's a lot of weight put on her and a lot of pressure, I think."

The show has attracted an array of followers, garnering attention from many avid superhero fans as well as readers of the original comics. Rolling Stone Magazine commented that "Legends of Tomorrow" is "...[The CW's] most ambitious superhero series yet...," because of its use of classic, yet uncommon characters, characters "that fans know well, but who don't exactly turn up on a lot on bedsheets and lunchboxes."

Female Superhero's Empowering Role

I don't think she has to be "-lady" or "-woman" or "-girl" specifically in any way. She just has to be and it's already so empowering and wonderful that she's a female superhero."

Renée, who graduated from BW's Music Theatre program in 2013, already has a deep resume of success. Following graduation, she performed leading roles on Broadway in productions of Pippin and Big Fish, as well as regional productions of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
