Rent the Runway and Komae co-founders celebrate Komae's pitch win in New YorkAmy Husted ’06 and Audrey Wallace ‘04 have claimed a second large award for their app, Komae. The BW graduates were among three winners out of 200 entrepreneurs who competed in a pitch competition at Project Entrepreneur, a joint effort of the Rent the Runway Foundation and UBS to educate and support female entrepreneurs. Husted and Wallace took home a prize that included $10,000 in start-up funds and participation in a five-week accelerator program. They posed for the picture here following their win. Pictured from left, are Rent the Runway cofounder Jenny Fleiss, Husted, Rent the Runway cofounder Jennifer Human and Wallace.

Husted and Wallace began work on Komae, a babysitting exchange app, in 2014. The app, created by and for mothers who have difficulty finding affordable trustworthy babysitting, allows them to connect with family and friends to exchange babysitting opportunities.

Since the idea was first envisioned, they’ve come a long way. First, more than 100 people funded the concept on Kickstarter and, then, they won a prize of $10,000 at the Female Entrepreneur Summit at the end of last year. Now with their second win at Project Entreprenuer, they are well on their way to launching the app.

BW LaunchNET Clients Coached by Theatre Department

Wallace, who graduated with degrees in communications and psychology had began her own successful at home business representing Rodan + Fields Dermatologists after her desire to stay home with her two sons met her desire to stay connected to the business world. Husted, who also graduated with a degree in psychology is a mother of two boys. She opened her own business, La Hoot Bakery from home where she utilized a diverse set of skills and passions: cake-making, blogging and being creative.

Audrey and Amy are clients of BW’s LaunchNET program, and recently benefited from a private presentation coaching session with Adam Heffernan, chairman of BW’s Theatre and Dance department.

You can stay tuned to the latest updates in the development of the app through the Komae website and blog.
