Top Philanthropy, Business Leaders to Speak at Commencement

Approximately 850 undergraduate and graduate students will participate in the 165th Commencement ceremonies May 9-10 as speakers Deborah D. Hoover and Bill Priemer address the BW community.

Hoover, president and CEO of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, will speak to students and guests at the undergraduate ceremony Sunday, May 10, 2:30 pm, in the George Finnie Stadium, 141 E. Bagley Rd. (rain site: Ursprung Gymnasium in Lou Higgins Center).

Priemer, president and CEO of Hyland, creator of OnBase, will address graduate business and education students at the graduate commencement Saturday, May 9, 10:30 am at Ursprung Gymnasium, 136 E. Bagley Rd.

Leading Voice for Entrepreneurship, Economic Competitiveness

Since 2007, Hoover has served as president and CEO of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, an organization with a mission to champion the entrepreneurial spirit in Northeast Ohio. She was instrumental in establishing the Foundation’s Northeast Ohio Collegiate Entrepreneurship Program, a Kauffman Campuses Initiative, to spread entrepreneurship across liberal arts campuses.

She also was a leader in bringing the Blackstone LaunchPad Program to Northeast Ohio. This initiative benefited Baldwin Wallace, which is a LaunchPad site.

Hoover recently served as chair of the Fund for Our Economic Future, a philanthropic collaborative aimed at advancing the economic competitiveness of Northeast Ohio. She continues to represent the Fund on the Team NEO Board. In addition, she is chair of the advisory council for the Foundation Center–Cleveland and was elected to the national Board of The Foundation Center, the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide.

She earned a B.A. from Williams College, a master's degree from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from George Washington University National Law Center. She is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia, New Hampshire and Ohio.

Strategist Who Propelled His Company to International Growth

Priemer joined Hyland in 1997 as vice president of marketing. He was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing in 2001, followed by chief operating officer in 2005, and in 2013 was named CEO.

In his roles, he has helped drive the successful growth of the company, leading all client and partner-facing initiatives, including global sales and marketing, professional services, technical training and customer support.

Hyland, creator of OnBase is the second largest ECM (enterprise content management) company in the world. During the last decade, the company has grown by a compound annual growth rate of 15-20 percent per year.

Priemer earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and a master's degree from Northwestern University. He is active in community endeavors, including BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, an organization focused on promoting business volunteerism and fostering excellence in nonprofit organizations.
