con-bach-outside-previewBaldwin Wallace University is ranked #4 in the nation on Music School Central’s list of “The Top 10 Liberal Arts Colleges for Music in the U.S.”

The article recognizing BW's Conservatory of Music calls the University “a bit of a hidden gem,” but goes on to assert, “Make no mistake, this school is home to a number of the top programs for music at any college in the U.S.”

Music School Excellence Plus a “Strong Sense of Community”

con-bmac-night-previewIn putting together the list, author/musician/consultant Bill Zuckerman writes that all of the top ten schools “have one thing in common that may not always be present in a large university – a strong, unique sense of community informed by academic culture relevant not only to artists, but to general humanity.”

Criteria used in the ranking included “the strength of the school’s faculty, what recent alumni have accomplished, the diversity and accomplishments of the school’s oeuvre of programs, the academic requirements and reputation of the institution outside of the music program.”

Marks of Musical Excellence

Music School Central points out a number of specific marks of excellence at BW:

  • con-mt-chorus-line-gold-previewthe “fantastic” music theatre program (“Every senior from the past seven years in the Musical Theatre program garners professional representation from talent agencies after the program’s annual senior showcase in New York City; it is an incredible statistic.”),
  • the “excellent” music performance programs with faculty from and strong ties to the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, and
  • the connection to “perhaps the greatest composer of all time, J.S. Bach," through a celebrated collegiate Bach Festival and the Riemenschneider Bach Institute.
