The student giving council (SGC) had a banner academic year in 2015/2016, raising $7,819 from over 430 current students for the YJ4th Year Gift, a student-funded scholarship awarded each year to high-need seniors. With a generous match provided by the Grippin Fund, the YJ4th Year Gift reached an astounding $10,000! This fall, these funds were distributed to five deserving seniors, each receiving approximately $2,000, enabling them to complete their degrees and experience at BW. With these recent awards, the student giving council has now given out a total of 20 scholarships since their inception in 2012. With over 12% of the student body participation, they rival the 9% of alumni that give back to the University.

“Without a doubt, choosing to attend Baldwin Wallace was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life thus far. I am extremely grateful for being awarded with the YJ4th Year Gift and for the generous donations of BW students to fund it. With this scholarship, the financial challenges my family once faced are now significantly less,” says Karli Wilson, 2016 YJ4th Year Gift recipient.

Members of SGC raised these funds throughout the year by educating their peers, visiting organizations across campus, celebrating the BW BIG GIVE, hosting contests, selling cookie grams and more.

SGC is a student-led group comprised of 17 class officers and members at large who understand the value of giving back to their community. From their impressive success, it’s clear that the students of this group are educating the student body on the importance of generosity to the student experience and spreading the spirit of philanthropy across our campus and beyond.

“I humbly thank you so much for this gift," says Crystal Westbrook, 2016 YJ4th Year Gift recipient. "This scholarship will not only help me further my education but will also help me get another step closer to pursuing my dream career. I will not let you down and promise to keep striving for the best. My family and I are very thankful for your generosity.”
