What is the purpose of education? Conventionally, we think of education as preparing individuals for work and life. In preparing for life, education often serves to socialize learners into the status quo of their culture, society or disciplines. But what if education nurtured the soul of the learner in such a way that new and imaginative communities of fully alive creative thinkers transformed society? Drawing on thinkers such as Parker Palmer, Mary Rose O'Reilly and Arthur Zajonc, we will explore the soul of education, the education of souls and their potential for transforming the world.
