A conversation with FOCUS Festival guest composer Frank Ticheli.

FOCUS Festival Convocation

October 5, 2017

3:10 p.m.Frank Ticheli

Gamble Auditorium, Kulas Musical Arts Building

Join us for a conversation with Frank Ticheli, this year's FOCUS Festival of Contemporary Music guest composer.

Frank Ticheli is among the most celebrated composers of his generation. Drawing on influences from across the musical spectrum, Ticheli's compositions dazzle the listener with energetic grooves, heartfelt beauty and imaginative sonic palettes. His music has been described as being "optimistic and thoughtful" (Los Angeles Times), "lean and muscular" (New York Times), "brilliantly effective" (Miami Herald) and "powerful, deeply felt, crafted with impressive flair and an ear for striking instrumental colors" (South Florida Sun-Sentinel).

Ticheli’s prodigious compositional output spans the gamut of musical abilities from elementary school students to professional ensembles. It is safe to say that Ticheli’s music has impacted nearly every musician performing in a wind band over the past three decades.

The FOCUS Festival is presented with support from Scott and Julie Mawaka.
