7 p.m."The Defamation Experience"

Student Activities Center (SAC)

"The Defamation Experience" is a powerful and interactive diversity teaching tool allowing participants to engage in civil discourse about the issues of race, class, religion, gender and the law.

The premise is a civil suit where a South Side African-American woman sues a Jewish North Shore real estate developer for defamation. The legal issue is whether or not she was falsely accused of stealing his watch and causing her financial harm. The performance takes the form of a courtroom drama where the audience is the jury.

A facilitated post-show discussion follows as a platform to continue the conversation about the issues raised in the play.

BW's Academic and Cultural Events Series (ACES) is highlighted by the World Music Series, featuring globally diverse musicians who often bring colorful cultural costumes, authentic indigenous instruments, and, always, exceptional artistry. ACES helps to coordinate BW's annual observances for Martin Luther King Jr. Week, Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month, too.
