With current teacher shortages across the state of Ohio, there is a strong need for passionate, skilled science and mathematics teachers statewide and nationwide.

The Baldwin Wallace Choose Ohio First STEM Teaching Scholars Program offers an innovative one year program that prepares you to teach mathematics or science for grades 7-12. BW STEM Teaching Scholars receive holistic support throughout the program to advance learning outcomes and career-readiness.

BW’s 12-month Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) in mathematics or science teaching programs are aligned to meet the talent and workforce needs of Northeast Ohio and the state by graduating qualified and trained teachers with subject matter expertise in the STEM fields. To help with cost, the Ohio Department of Higher Education has granted BW the funds to award one-time scholarships of up to $8,000 to incoming students in MAEd in mathematics or science teaching. MAEd in Science or Mathematics Teaching at BW

BW’s MAEd in mathematics or science teaching programs are full-time and begin each May to prepare students to teach by the following summer. Students master research-based teaching strategies and spend five days each week in field and clinical experiences in local schools with a mentor-teacher. An integrative seminar supports the student's professional development as a teacher. Graduates of the program are guaranteed job interviews for any open position in the students’ teaching field within the placement school district.

  • Recruit underrepresented STEM student groups including women and students of color

Choose Ohio First funds higher education and business collaborations that will have the most impact on Ohio's position in world markets such as aerospace, medicine, computer technology and alternative energy. These collaborations will ultimately produce substantive improvements to the pipeline of STEM graduates and STEM educators in Ohio. Choose Ohio First Teaching Scholarships

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) has granted Baldwin Wallace University funds to award one-time Choose Ohio First Teaching scholarships of up to $8,000 to incoming MAEd in mathematics or science teaching students.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ohio residents with a minimum college GPA of 3.0 and have earned (or will be earning) a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry (or related science degree), or mathematics. Degrees must be obtained from a regionally accredited institution within the United States.
