2012 - 2013

Julian Karahalios was accepted to California Institute of the Arts for his master’s degree.

Patrick Hyzy was named a Baldwin Wallace University Summer Scholar. His research will be based around the Beatles and he will additionally arrange the entire White Album for chamber orchestra to be performed at our annual BW Beatles Festival in the spring of 2014.  

Sean Hussey was accepted to the soundSCAPE Festival in Maccagno, Italy this summer where his new work for voice and percussion will be premiered.  Sean was also selected composer for the 2013 SEAMUS (Society of Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States) Conference this spring. Sean serves as composer in residence for Cleveland’s Inlet Dance Theatre this year and will continue his collaboration with them next season.

Zachary Albrecht was accepted to both the Charlotte New Music Festival and the Atlantic Music Festival this summer. He will have premieres at both festivals.  

Daniel English was accepted to the Charlotte New Music Festival where his new work for percussion will be premiered.  

Philip de Oliveira’s Symphonic Movement was premiered by the BW Symphonic Wind Ensemble this past spring, Dwight Oltman - conductor. His work for solo trumpet will be included on a new CD of solo trumpet pieces by Cleveland Orchestra member/BW Faculty trumpet professor, Jack Sutte.  

Rina Sugawara has been accepted as a clarinetist for the Kent/Blossom Music Festival where she will perform in an orchestra made up of highly gifted students and members of the Cleveland Orchestra.
