An internship is a structured learning experience in a work setting that gives students the opportunity to learn about a career interest and gain valuable knowledge and experience in a particular field.

In an internship, students work as employees, but the purpose is to receive mentoring, supervision and training.

VALUE OF INTERNSHIPS

Internships are designed to assist students in the career exploration process to determine if that career matches their interests and skills. Internships allow students to:

  • Test potential career paths
  • Develop professional skills
  • Explore and clarify majors
  • Establish a professional network
  • Increase marketability

INTERNSHIPS YIELD SUCCESS

Baldwin Wallace students complete hundreds of internships locally and nationally each year. Depending on their major, students are encouraged to complete three or more internships while in college.

INTERN TO EMPLOYEE

Many employers use intern programs to recruit entry-level college hires. Internship experience is a top factor influencing hiring decisions.

RESOURCES

Through BW's Career Services Office, Baldwin Wallace provides students with resources to find internship opportunities, connect with employers and learn how to grow from the experience. The BW Career Network by Handshake is a web-based platform where students can find resources on resume and cover letter writing, tips for interviewing and a variety of other career resources. Employers post internship positions and BW students can apply and connect with employers directly through the network.

Every spring, Baldwin Wallace hosts the Career & Internship Expo - a dynamic networking and talent sourcing event designed to connect Baldwin Wallace students with employers for internships and jobs.

Baldwin Wallace has numerous local (NEO Talent Exchange) and state (www.ohiomeansinternships.com) partnerships and affiliations where BW students can connect with employers for internships.
