Previous to joining the Cleveland Orchestra, he had been a member of the Colorado Symphony for ten years. During his association with the Colorado Symphony, and in addition to his musical duties, Sherwin served as the orchestra's personnel manager for seven years and often was the host for the orchestra's popular post-performance "talk back" programs. In addition, he was seen and heard regularly as spokesperson advertising Colorado Symphony Orchestra programs on television and radio. Before becoming a member of the Colorado Symphony, Sherwin lived in Chicago, Illinois performing with organizations such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Music of the Baroque ensemble, Chicago City Ballet and Chicago Opera Theater. He was often engaged for studio recording work and has been heard on national television advertisement soundtracks for United Airlines and McDonald's. Also while living in Chicago, Sherwin was a frequent artist on several chamber music series including Dame Myra Hess’ radio broadcasts from the Chicago Public Library. Other orchestras of which Sherwin has been a member include the New Orleans Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Florida Orchestra. He received a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded the Performer's Certificate, and he subsequently earned a Master of Music from Northwestern University. He is a former bassoon fellowship and contra bassoon fellowship student at the Aspen Music Festival. Bassoon teachers include K. David Van Hoesen, Willard Elliot, Ryohei Nakagawa and David Carroll.
