Dr. Maureen Loudin has been with the School of Education since January 1999 as a literacy professor. She received a doctorate in curriculum and instruction in 1998 from Kent State University. She is also certified as a teacher, pre-kindergarten to grade eight. She previously taught elementary education in New York, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Her research interests are in the ways and degrees to which middle and secondary teachers utilize literacy strategies to support learning across the curriculum. She has been coordinator of the summer reading program. This program promotes the literacy development of area children and adolescents by combining assessment and individualized instruction employing teachers enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education program. In addition to literacy, she is also interested in the preparation of middle level teachers using interdisciplinary and thematic units, cooperative learning and the infusion of technology to enhance literacy development for all adolescent learners.
