What is your favorite quote?

“The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.” -James Taylor

What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?

My biggest mistake as a first year student was not living in the same residence hall as a lot of other first year students. I think that I would have enjoyed living with other first year students who were going through the exact same things as I was. I have heard about how fun it is to live with other first year students, because you get to become close friends with people in your class and make lasting memories.

How did you choose your major?

I chose to major in Communication Disorders because it combines teaching and science into one profession. The ability to communicate is such an important skill to daily life and it is something everyone deserves to be able to do. I find joy in helping my clients improve their communication skills and it gives me a great feeling to know that I have made a difference in a person’s life.

What has been you best experience at BW so far?

Being an orientation leader last year has been my best experience at BW so far! Not only did I become close friends with the other students on staff but I had the rare privilege of meeting the first year students before the rest of the student body. I am so passionate about being a Yellow Jacket and it was a very rewarding opportunity to spread that passion to the first year students and see them get excited about their next four years at BW.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus is the student union during dinner time. After going to class most of the day it is nice to take a break to get food with friends. The dining room is usually full at dinner time and so I get to hop from table to table and catch up with friends. Everyone is part of the Yellow Jacket family and when I eat at the student union it feels like one big family dinner. Not to mention the chocolate chip cookies are the BEST!

What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?

Sandra Bullock would probably play the role of me in a movie. Sandra Bullock has played serious roles and has been in many comedies. I think that she would portray both my serious and my goofy sides perfectly. I was also a huge tom boy growing up and so after seeing Miss Congenitally it seems as if she has already played the role of me in a movie!

What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?

My parents have always been very supportive throughout my entire life and that didn’t change when I left home for BW. My parents always say, “You don’t have to be THE best, only YOUR best.” My parents have taught me to be a hard worker but also told me to find balance in my college life between work and play.

Final Word:

To all of you Yellow Jackets, I hope that you find a second home here at BW. I encourage you to get involved on campus and step outside of your comfort zone. When you meet new people and learn new things, you experience incredible growth as a person. As a senior looking back, I can see how much confidence I have gained and how much I have changed. Stick to the values and morals you have been taught but remain open minded to new things and be ready to have the best four years of your life! AWWW JACKETS!
