What is your favorite quote?
ʺLife begins at the end of your comfort zone.ʺ
What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
I focused too much on what I thought I had to do rather than focusing on doing what I wanted to do. Once you start allowing yourself options and opening your mind, you experience new things that interest you and consequently what you're passionate about.
How did you choose your major?
I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people in a genuine way. I also want to be able to create relationships with those I am working for. I decided that the health field would give me that opportunity. Physical Therapy and Exercise Science seemed to be the best fit for my personality. Questioning your major is very normal and nothing to stress over. Even going into my last year at BW I question what I want to do with the rest of my life. That's why I believe it's so valuable to recognize what you're passionate about. That will lead you in the right direction. As my academic advisor told me, ʺI'm 47 and I still don't know what I want to do with my life.ʺ
What has been your best experience at BW so far?
My most significant experience during my time at BW has been my semester abroad. I studied for 5 months in Cape Town, South Africa. This experience pushed me so far out of comfort zone I came back to campus feeling like a new person. I had gained amazing perspectives and learned an incredibly different culture. I am now able to use this experience during my everyday life as a leader on the BW campus. It was by far the best decision I've made.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot is the walkway in front of the Strosacker Student Union. I also really love going down to Coe Lake for long walks. It's not actually apart of campus but since it's so close I still count it as one of my favorite spots as a nice getaway.
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
Ellen Paige (going off of her performance as Juno). I am often compared to her physically and personality wise. Her short structure and unique humor resembles me very well.
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
Take care of yourself. Eat well and try to get as much sleep as possible (when you can). Coming down with a cold can cost you much more than it has in the past due to the increase in responsibility and expectations at the college level.
Open your mind. Accept everyone and every conversation. Life doesn't have to be limited or in a constant rush. These next four years can be very basic or they can be a wild roller coaster. You get to make that decision now. Let no one and no thing stop you from exploring all this world has to offer you.
