What is your favorite quote?
ʺDo not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.ʺ-Ralph Waldo Emerson
What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
As a first year, one of my biggest mistakes was not managing my time well. It's easy to want to try out every organization when you first get to college, but you have to know where your limit is and remember to take care of yourself first. I learned not to spread myself too thin with my commitments, and how to better balance my schedule.
How did you choose your major?
I decided to be an Early Childhood Education major after talking to current teachers and friends who were still in school learning to become a teacher. When I talked to these people, they helped me realize that what I want to do for the rest of my life shouldn't have to feel like work, it should be something I enjoy and get excited about. When I think of being a teacher and working with kids, that's the feeling I get, and that is who I want to be.
What has been your best experience at BW so far?
Although there have been many experiences that make BW so special, one of them would for sure have to be participating in Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is a 12-hour event, where the whole BW and Berea community come together to help fight Pediatric Aids. Being a part of an experience like this really proved to me just how community based and service driven the people of BW are. For the size school we are, raising over $30,000 is extremely impressive and reminds me every day of why I am so proud to be a Yellow Jacket.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
One of my favorite spots on campus is the Cyber Cafe, there are always friendly faces around and it's a good place to relax and catch up with friends! But, when it is nice outside, I really enjoy sitting outside on the West Lawn and enjoying the sights of our beautiful campus!
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
I would love if Sandra Bullock played the role of me in a movie. She is a woman who I feel is very accomplished and successful, but still well grounded and willing to give back as much and as often as she can. She has challenged herself by taking on different roles in her career, not only as an actress, but as a producer. I feel like she is a woman who is willing to take chances and make a difference in the world.
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
During my first year, the best advice my family gave me was to be myself, have fun, and do what makes me happy. I could not be more thankful to them for reminding me that my experience at BW could and should be what I make of it. It really is about being true to who you are and having fun while you are here, ultimately that is going to make the experience the best for you!
This is your time, you are the future of BW, so don't be afraid to try something new and get involved! We have so many great organizations here at BW, from Athletics, Student Government, Greek Life, Community Service groups, the list goes on and on. Baldwin Wallace is an incredible University that prides itself on academic success, community and spirit! I hope you find yourself realizing you have a second home here at BW.
