What is your favorite quote?
“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.” -We Bought A Zoo.
What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
My biggest mistake was waiting too long to get involved. I spent too much time during my first year not doing many things on campus. I still loved BW, but I did not really start getting the true college experience until I stepped up and joined multiple organizations on campus. It changed my whole perspective on the school in the best way possible, and I learned that putting yourself out there can really bring you incredible happiness.
How did you choose your major?
I am currently an English major here at BW. I always had a strong interest in reading and writing for fun, so I knew that English would be a good direction to head in. I actually started off as an Undecided major for almost two years, but then I decided to go with what I cared most about: English. Although I am focusing on Higher Education, I still plan to write on the side throughout my life, because I will always have a passion for it.
What has been you best experience at BW so far?
Being a part of Dance Marathon this year was an incredible experience for me. To begin with, the event in itself brought me some of the most fun I've had in a very long time. On top of that, I cannot explain the sense of pride and accomplishment that I felt after it was revealed that we exceeded our original fundraising goal. Overall, the event was fantastic and I will never forget it.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
Anywhere with a vending machine. I tend to live out of these things, so I always feel safe when they're around. I'm a big fan of Cheez-Its, and it's not uncommon to see me in a lounge eating a bag of them.
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
I would have to say Ryan Gosling. I understand that we have absolutely nothing in common in the area of looks, but we can ignore that fact for now. I say Gosling because he's my favorite actor, and I think he could play me well (mainly because he can play any role well). Plus, maybe if he DID play the role of Brad Zucco, we could trick people into thinking I'm good-looking as well. (See that? Not a bad plan.)
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
The best advice I've gotten from my parents is to not get worked up over the little things in life. Things are never as bad as they seem, and nine times out of ten any problem can be solved with a deep breath and relaxation. Overall, being calm in the face of stress is the biggest key that got me through my first year.
Final Word:
The time you'll have at BW will be some of the best of your life. As everyone says, it really does move very fast, so make the most of every second here. Through your four years on campus, you will discover so much about yourself, so don't take any experience for granted. Just love your time here!
