What is your favorite quote?
ʺBe the change you want to see in the world.ʺ - Ghandi
What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
I failed to go far outside of my comfort zone. I have found that the moments that have impacted me most are the ones where I have to go a bit out of my comfort zone. You learn a lot about yourself, and I feel that had I done that sooner on in my college career, I would have been able to dive into other experiences on campus sooner. So take some advice from an upperclassman: get involved, branch outside of your comfort zone, and watch yourself grow in ways you never anticipated.
How did you choose your major?
I chose to be a Broadcasting Major because I wanted to be the next radio voice of the Cleveland Indians. However, after getting involved in other things, I discovered that sportscasting wasn't for me, and I found a big appreciation for the business and operational side of radio. I added an Entrepreneurship major on top of the Broadcasting because I would like to possibly own and run my own business one day. As of right now, I have three different potential career paths that I will be pursuing, so between my two degrees and experiences here at BW, I know I will be able to choose the one that's best for me!
What has been your best experience at BW so far?
There are many things that I could put as an answer for this section, but the one thing that stands out in my mind is being a part of Dance Marathon 2013. We raised $37,000 for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and being a part of something that amazing really is a humbling experience. It really makes you feel like you are making a difference in the world, and not many things can top that.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is definitely WBWC 88.3fm The Sting, our campus radio station. It's a great organization to be involved with, oh and the people that work there and the music we play is pretty cool too!
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
I would want Leonardo DiCaprio to play me in a movie. He is a fantastic actor that can play many roles, so he would be a good Anthony Hrestak. If he for whatever reason turned down the offer at such a role, I would want Matthew Fox to play me, because Lost is my favorite show of all time, and I'm sure he could do a great job acting as me.
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
My family told me that I could do anything that I set my mind to, and it truly is great advice. The only person that ever truly stands in your way is yourself, and once you realize that, you will accomplish anything you want. I have achieved more at BW then I really ever thought I would or could, and I attribute that to the support of my family, and also to the many opportunities I've been blessed with at BW.
Final Word
College is a fresh start, you can be whoever you choose to be. But remember this: going off to college marks the beginning of your journey towards the rest of your life. Be smart about your choices, be smart about who your friends are, and most importantly, have fun and make the most of every single day while you are here at BW, because the time goes too quickly, and there are so many amazing memories that you will make before it passes, so enjoy them all! :)
