New forthe 2007-2008 academic year, the Bridge Street Apartment Building will be used to house graduate students.  As you consider the option of living on campus please keep in find the following information.  Current students should be reminded of the following. 

InventoriesAmenities

All students will be asked to complete and sign an apartment inventory.  Failure to complete and submit inventories may result in your inability to contest damage charges when you move out of the apartment. 

All Bridge Street apartments have a kitchen with a refrigerator, oven and stove, a bathroom, one, two, or three bedrooms, and a living room.  Apartments are furnished with a bed per resident, dresser, desk with chair per resident, and dining table with chairs. 

The Bridge Street Apartment Building is centrally air conditioned.  Each apartment has an individual thermostat used to set the temperature of the apartment.  There is no need for noisy window units!

The Housing fee includes all utilities (gas, electric, water), local telephone service, cable television, and a T1 Internet connection.  Questions about connecting computers to the College network from your apartment should be addressed to the IT Help Desk by calling 7000 from an on-campus telephone. 

To access the Internet, cable television and telephone you must use the newly installed voice/video/data ports located about 12 inches above the floor.  All three ports are contained in a rectangular box.  Public laundry facilities are available in the laundry room.  The cost of the washing machine is USD$1.00 per load.  Clothes dryers cost USD$0.50 per load.

Mail and Telephone

In order to get your mail you must have your name on the mailbox.  All residents' names should be listed to avoid confusion with the US Postal Service.  Your address is:

The telephone in your apartment allows you local access in the greater Cleveland area and is included in the price of the apartment.  Your phone number is listed on the telephone.  The area code in Berea is 440.  All College residents have the 260 exchange.  All College offices including faculty and staff use the 826 exchange.  To make an on-campus call simply dial the last for digits of the telephone number.  To make an off-campus call you must dial 9 followed by the telephone number.  Long distance services may be arranged by calling AT&T at 1 800 445 6063.  Tell the operator you wish to enroll in the ACUS program and that you are a student at Baldwin-Wallace College.  You may also use credit cards and prepaid calling cards that are available at most retail stores.  To set up your voice mail dial 8000 from your apartment telephone and follow the recorded instructions.  Each resident has their own voice mailbox.

Smoking

Baldwin-Wallace College is a completely smoke free environment.  Smoking is not permitted in any College apartment even if all residents agree smoking is acceptable.

Trash

All trash is to be taken to the dumpsters conveniently located in the parking areas. Food and other trash left in the laundry room and other common areas will attract bugs and rodents.  The trashcans in the laundry areas are for lint and empty detergent bottles, not food and pizza boxes.  Please be courteous and respectful of everyone and take your trash to the dumpsters. Apartments will be assessed a fee for trash removal.

Noise

The Bridge Street Apartment Building is a special environment for graduate students.  In an effort to promote respect and good neighboring, extended quiet hours are in effect for all students.  In addition to 24-hour courtesy hours, quiet hours are in effect from 10:00pm to 9:00am.  Quiet hours are in effect 12 months a year.  Courtesy and quiet hours apply to all students and their guests.  Residents are rdesponsible for the behavior of their guests.

Safety

For your safety and the safety of other residents please do not prop exterior doors.  Apartment doors should be locked when you leave your apartment.  It is also a good idea to keep your apartment door locked while you are in the apartment.

Parking

Parking permits are required to park in any College parking lot.  Parking permits are available in the Business Office, Bonds Hall for a fee.

Billing

Billing for your apartment occurs three times a year; fall, spring and summer.  Students are billed in four-month increments.  You apartment charge will appear on your student bill along with tuition charges and fees.  Payment should be made in the Cashier's Office located in Bonds Hall. 

Moving to a different apartment and refunds

Students may only change apartments during the semester break.  Refunds are based on the first day of classes for the given semester (Summer, Fall, and Spring) and the date you return your keys.  **Please check your Academic Calendar for class dates.**

  • 15-21 days            70% refund

  • 22-28 days            50% refund

  • 29-56 days            25% refund

  • over 57 days           no refund

Cleaning your apartment

Residents are required to clean their apartment on a regular basis.  Apartments will be checked to ensure proper compliance with College cleanliness standards.  Students who fail to meet those standards will charged a cleaning fee of no less than $100.00. Students will be asked to vacate their apartment permanently if they continue to fail inspection.

Consolidation

After the second week of classes the College reserves the right to consolidate apartments that are not filled to capacity.  Students will be asked to move to an apartment of equal value or pay the full rate to guarantee a single apartment.  Students failing to move will be automatically billed the single rate.
