
A request for use of a personal air conditioner (A/C) in your campus residence will be approved under the following conditions:
- You have a chronic medical condition (e.g., asthma, allergy) that necessitates use of an A/C.
- You submit physician verification as explained below.
- The B-W Disability Services for Students Office validates/concurs with your request.
If you are requesting use of your personal air-conditioner for the FIRST TIME, physician verification must be submitted on the B-W Disability Services form which is available online (see link below). This verification will be retained on file in the Disability Services Office. You must provide your housing information and signature on the form as well.
If you are requesting use of your personal air-conditioner for OTHER THAN THE FIRST TIME, you do not need to submit new medical documentation; however; you must again complete the B-W Disability Services form which is available online (see link below). Provide your housing information and signature.

Summary of Responsibilities
Student
- Go to the Online Air Conditioner Request Form (Currently being updated, wil be available soon)
- Print form; complete form, as described above, and submit 3 copies to Disability Services.
- Provide the air conditioner; have the portable A/C window unit* in your room, ready for install. Installation will be delayed if unit is not available when B&G arrives.
- Pay $75.00 service charge that will be charged to your student bill.
- Make arrangements with B&G to have A/C removed at close of the academic year.
*Recommended size: standard 13” x 19”, 3000-6000 BTUs.

- Validate the request.
- Distribute copies of approved form to B&G and Residence Life.
- Retain one copy of the completed form in student’s file.
Buildings & Grounds (B&G) (440) 826-2233
- Install A/C as soon as possible after you move in or within 5-10 business days (usually sooner) after receiving notification from Disability Services.
Note from B&G: Numerous A/C requests are received at the beginning of the school year, so it is advisable to submit your form early for prompt installation. No A/C units will be installed after October 1st during fall semester.
