Community Outreach

The Office of Community Outreach Staff

Mila P. Cooper is the Director of Community Outreach and Service Learning. Mila earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and the Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).  She also has a Master of Divinity degree from Payne Theological Seminary and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management and leadership.  Currently in her 8th year at B-W, she has worked in higher education for over 20 years.  Originally from Philadelphia, Mila comes from a very large family and is married to Gerald A. Cooper.  They are the proud parents of two daughters, Nia Patrice and Mariah Nicole.  An ordained minister, Mila serves as the pastor of Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church in Maple Heights.  She enjoys traveling with her family, reading, sports, and photography.   Mila is an advocate of community service, experiential learning and social justice issues.

Julie Bishop is the Assistant Director of Community Outreach.  Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Baldwin-Wallace College.  Currently in her third year as Assistant Director, she has had a longstanding history of involvement in OCO both as an undergraduate student and a Graduate Assistant.  Julie has also worked as a Community Support Specialist and HIV Prevention Educator at Recovery Resources in Cleveland.  Originally from Massillon, Julie lives in Cleveland with her husband, Rob.  She enjoys outdoor activities, reading and spending time with friends and family.  Julie is passionate about service, education and social justice related issues.

Abby Joyce is the Graduate Intern of Community Outreach. Abby earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from John Carroll University. She is currently in her first year in the master’s program in Leadership in Higher Education at Baldwin-Wallace. Previous to this year, Abby did a year of service through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Hartford, CT where she worked with persons with disabilities or those who experienced homelessness. Passionate about social justice issues, Abby embraces the OCO mission of helping students develop a lifelong ethic of service. She is very passionate about social justice issues.  Originally from Garfield Heights, Abby has always been a loyal Cleveland fan to anything and everything. She enjoys traveling and hopes to go back to Rome her favorite destination yet.
