Community Outreach

Welcome Alumni!

Alumni are always welcome to participate in special projects coordinated by the Office of Community Outreach (OCO)!

Alumni joined in on OCO's annual B-W Spring Service Day in April of 2011!  This was the second consecutive year in which alumni were able to serve in their own areas while current students, faculty, and staff participated in service projects back in Berea and the Greater Cleveland area.

The Chicago Alumni Chapter and friends (pictured on the left) helped tidy up the streets in the Albany Park area by participating in The Order of Mercy's Annual Chicago Clean Up.

Alumni in the Pittsburgh area worked alongside staff from the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area to prepare the historical Carrie Furnaces for their summer tour season.

Our eventual goal is to have B-W alumni across the country involved in B-W Spring Service Day.  Please contact Julie Bishop at jbishop@bw.edu or (440)826-8560 if interested in planning a project in your area or for information on any of the projects listed below.

Saturday of Service

Every fall, the Office of Community Outreach holds a campus-wide service day in conjunction with organizations in Berea and the Greater Cleveland area.  Students, faculty, staff and alumni come together to serve with a number of different organizations. Participants serve in a variety of ways.  Cleaning, sorting donations, decorating for the holidays, raking leaves and spending time with older adults living in a nursing home were all a part of this special event last year!

Gift Drive

OCO collaborates with Cuyahoga County's Department of Children and Family Services and other local organizations each winter to collect gifts for children who are in foster care during the holidays. The B-W community comes together to purchase gifts, donate wrapping paper and supplies, and wrap the gifts.  Alumni can pitch in by donating gifts or wrapping materials, or joining us for the gift wrapping party.

MLK Day of Learning

The Office of Community Outreach celebrates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by inviting fourth graders from two area schools to participate in a day of educational activities at B-W in January.  Reading, art and music activities related to Dr. King's life are facilitated by B-W students, faculty and staff.

We would love to have alumni facilitators!
