The deadline to apply for ASuB has passed. Please check back later to see highlights of the trip. What is Alternative Break?
Alternative Break is an intense service experience during one of B-W's breaks. It is an opportunity to serve with fellow B-W students, make new friends, make a difference, and travel to another part of the country and even the world. The focus on Alternative Break trips is direct service, reflection and education.
The Issues
There will be two trips for Alternative Summer Break 2010. One trip will focus on environmental issues in Lewes, Delaware and serve at Camp Henlopen State Park, part of the Delaware State Park. The second trip will focus on children's issues in Atlanta, Georgia and serve at a number of sites such as the Atlanta Children's Shelter, the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, and CEASE (Center to End Adolescent Sexual Exploitation).
Commitment
Being an Alternative Break participant requires time, energy and commitment. Participants agree to invest time and energy in order to make this experience a success. Participants must attend all ASuB events including group meetings before, during and after the trip. If you miss pre-trip group meetings, you may be replaced.
Expectations
The top priority of this trip is to participate in direct service projects. Each participant can expect to experience the community and culture of the city or region in which they will serve. Moreover, participants are expected to have an open mind, willingness to learn and have new experiences. Participants are also expected to have fun!
Cost
The cost of ASuB is $200.00. It covers all expenses for the trip except food for travel days, personal purchases or souvenirs, and social events as determined by the group (i.e., sight seeing).
Pre-Trip Preparation
Participants must attend all pre-trip meetings (approximately five). These weekly meetings will begin the week of March 29th.
Alcohol/Drug Free Policy
Alternative Break trips are alcohol and drug free. No alcohol is to be consumed, whether participants are legally of age or not. Individuals who are found to be consuming alcohol will be sent home at their expense. The B-W College Code of Conduct applies while on this trip.
Non-refundable Payment Policy
All students participating in ASuB must pay a $100 deposit by March 26th. The deposit is non-refundable after April 20th. The balance is due by April 19th.
