SCHOOL CLOSING
In the event of extreme weather conditions, the College officers will decide on the closing of the college. Major Cleveland radio stations and TV stations will be notified immediately  of the decision to close. Also a message will be placed on the B-W Information Line: 826-2330.

SYLLABUS
During the first class meeting, you should receive a syllabus from your instructor which has information about the course, textbook(s), study guide, the professor's name, office and telephone number. The syllabus will outline the material covered during the semester, such as when assignments, projects, and papers are due.  The professor’s grading system and some special notes from the instructor (expectations, class participation, late submission penalty, etc.) may also be noted.  Each syllabus is different; there is no standard form which an instructor must follow.  If you have any questions about the information given in the syllabus, ask the instructor.

MIDTERM:
This is a major examination given in many classes (some classes may not have mid-term), in the middle of the semester. Mid-term dates are given in the syllabus. You can have essay, multiple choice, true-false type or combination of all types of questions on an exam.

FINAL EXAM:
This is the last examination of the semester (some classes may not have finals) and generally covers all subjects covered during the semester. Some instructors assign research papers or a take home-examination instead.

RESEARCH PAPER:
This is a major paper, which will be done in a long period of time, usually during one semester. In order to write the paper, a student is expected to select a topic, somewhat narrow in scope and perform library research, quantitative analysis, and software usage. Papers should be typed and should follow the instructions given in the Baldwin-Wallace College Style Manual.

CLASS PARTICIPATION:
You will be graded on class participation in some courses.  Preparation before class, and participation in class discussions, is encouraged by the instructors.  Class participation is very important for you and also your classmates. Do not feel uncomfortable because of your English skills, class participation will improve your speaking techniques and also management skills.
